Off-road adventures are extremely fun experiences, but they can also be pretty exhausting. This is why most people “forget” about washing their dirt bikes when getting home from riding. The downside is that you will be left with a dirt bike that is covered in dry mud, which doesn’t get off with a simple water rinse. Believe me, I’ve been in this situation more than enough to know. This is why today I will share my favorite dirt bike cleaner. In fact, I will include multiple options so that you can choose the one that works best for you.
Muc Off Nano Tech Bike Cleaner is the best dirt bike cleaner you can get. The Nano technology used to develop this product breaks down the dirt and grime on a molecular level. The dirt bike cleaner is free from solvents, acids and it has a pH-balanced composition that make it safe to use on any surface. In fact, the Muc Off Nano Tech Bike Cleaner can be used on the leather seat and carbon fiber parts. Some other great options that I tested for my dirt bike are the Chemical Guys Mr. Pink Foaming Car Wash Soap, the Muc-Off Snow Foam, the Finish Line Super Bike Wash, and the S100 Total Cycle Cleaner.
There’s nothing more annoying than having to scrape dry mud off your dirt bike. On the bright side of things, dirt bike cleaners make this easier. Keep reading to check out the best dirt bike cleaners on the market and how to super wash your bike.
What is the Best Cleaner for a Dirt Bike?
If you searched on the web for the best dirt bike cleaners, you probably know by now that there are tens of different products that you can use. The tricky part is that each cleaner is designed for special use. Starting with products that can be used on the bike’s chain and ending with foams that specialize in soaking off dirt, it can be difficult to determine what is the best product. Don’t worry; you don’t have to do this. I will present my favorite dirt bike cleaners. They are all tested and available on Amazon, so you don’t have to go looking for them at Walmart or any other shop.
Before going any further, I want to state right from the start that no matter what product you choose, it’s important to read the instructions on the labe; and see which surfaces it is designed for. While a lot of bike cleaners work wonders when it comes to removing dirt, some of them contain chemicals that can be too harsh and damage some parts of your bike. Make sure you choose a cleaner that is efficient but gentle, preferably one free from solvents and acids. Make sure to stick around for the end because I will show you exactly how to clean your dirt bike parts.
#1 Muc Off Nano Tech Bike Cleaner
The Muc Off bike cleaner is one of the best dirt bike cleaners out there. The manufacturers take pride in the fact that this is the only bike cleaner with Nano technology that penetrates deep into dirt and grime while protecting your bike’s finish at the same time. The feature that makes this product shine the most (pun intended) is its ability to be used on any surface or bike components. This includes carbon fiber, so you don’t have to worry about any damage. To properly use this cleaner and get the most out of it, spray it on your bike and let it soak for a couple of minutes. When the dirt is all soaked up and you can almost see it sliding off the bike, it’s time to rinse. You can use a brush to scrub off the more stubborn mud bits if there are any left.
It’s never a good idea to leave a dirt bike muddy. I wrote a full guide that showcaes what can happen to a dirt bike when left muddy for a long time. It’s easier to clean the bike with a hose than have to pay a visit to the mechanic!
#2 Chemical Guys Pink Foaming (Candy Scent)
Chemical Guys make some of the most powerful cleaners on the market and there is no doubt about that. Just take the Chemical Guys Pink Foaming, for example, which holds the “#1 Best Seller” title in Amazon’s Cleaner category. The thousands of 5-star reviews show that the Chemical Guys Pink Foaming is a premium product that can make your dirt bike squeaky clean in no time. I also should mention that the formula used by the cleaner is pH balanced and therefore, you can use it on paint, plastic, or metal parts without any problems.
#3 Muc-Off Snow Foam, 5 Liter (Pre-Wash Treatment)
On the third spot, we have another foam dirt bike cleaner that does wonders when it comes to getting rid of dry mud. The Muc-Off Snow Foam is a pre-wash that shreds through dirt and grime in no time. While the Muc-Off Snow Foam can be used at home, it also works with foam guns. So, if you happen to have one lying around, you are in luck. Just like all the products featured on this list, the Muc-Off Snow Foam is safe to use on all dirt bike parts, including leather seats.
#4 Super Bike Wash
The Super Bike Wash combines five cleaning agents that remove dirt in no time. If you are worried that your dirt bike might get rusty, you should be pleased to know that the Super Dirt Bike Wash contains two rust and oxidation inhibitors. Therefore, you are not only cleaning the dirt from your bike. You are also protecting its metal parts. I should mention that the dirt bike cleaner is an “Amazon’s Choice” product and that it has more than 2,500 five star ratings. This should showcase that it’s a premium cleaner that will not disappoint.
#5 S100 12005L Total Cycle Cleaner Bottle – 1.32 Gallon
The S100 Total Cycle Cleaner is another Amazon bestselling product and this is thanks to the fact that it’s super affordable and that it gets the job done. The S100 Total Cycle Cleaner works great and what makes it so popular is the fact that it doesn’t require too much scrubbing. All you need is a pressure washer and you are good to go. Cleaning your dirt bike will never be an annoying task again. Moreover, the cleaner is designed as an all-in-one product. This means that it can be used on all the dirt bike’s parts to clean. You don’t have to worry about any possible damages.
What Can I Use to Clean My Dirt Bike Parts?
While there are many all-in-one cleaners that can be used on every part of your dirt bike (as the list above shows), there are premium products that specialize in cleaning specific parts of your bike. Check out the list below to see all the products that you can use to make your dirt bike squeaky clean.
- Bike Cleaner
All the bike cleaners presented in the top 5 list above can be used to clean the whole bike. Simply let the bike soak for a couple of minutes and rinse thoroughly with water (it is easier if you use a pressure washer).
Cleaners that produce foams, such as the Muc-Off Snow Foam, are considered pre-wash treatments, and they are designed to soak off any dry and stubborn mud you have on your bike. They work great if used with pressure washers or foam guns but can be used without any of those as well.
Chain degreasers are products designed to dissolve and remove any hard build up on your chain. Spray on, let it soak, scrub with a chain brush and rinse off. I personally use the Maxima 75920 Clean-Up Chain Cleaner, an emulsion type cleaner designed to clean chains without damaging the rubber O-rings or the metal surfaces.
Chain lubricants must be applied only after you’ve cleaned your bike chain with a degreaser. There are two types of lubes for bike chains: wet and dry. Choose the right one for you based on what conditions you ride in. If you usually ride your bike in wet conditions, choose the wet lube and if not, choose the dry one. If you are riding in dry conditions, the dry lube will prevent dirt from sticking to your chain but if you ride in wet conditions, a dry lube will most likely rinse off easily if it rains.
- Leather and Vinyl Cleaner and Conditioner
If you want to take good care of your bike, try dusting off your seat with a special leather cleaner that nourishes and protects your seat making it look and feel as good as new. Avoid using other products on leather as they might damage it.
- Pressure Washer
From my experience, I have to say a pressure washer is a must-have if you ride your dirt bike often through dirt and mud. You can definitely wash your bike using a regular garden hose, but the job gets significantly easier with a pressure washer. What’s great is that you don’t need a very powerful one. In fact, any pressure washer will do. The Craftsman Electric Pressure Washer is not expensive at all and it does wonders when it comes to cleaning dirt or mud. You can find it on Amazon.
Can You Use Dawn Dish Soap to Wash a Dirt Bike?
Dish soaps, such as Dawn, work great for frame cleaning, especially because they are gentle with your bike and will not cause any damage to plastic, paint or metal. As it is designed to wash off the grease on dishes, it works wonders when it comes to degreasing the bike and removing mud and dirt and it is used worldwide, even by mechanics. Moreover, it is easy to find and buy and super affordable.
How Do I Super Clean my Dirt Bike?
The most important tip that I can share with new riders when it comes to cleaning their bikes is to do it right after they finish riding. If there’s no time for this, you should at least hose it off to prevent the mud from getting dry and hard to remove. In case you leave your bike in the garage for a few days and the mud gets all dried up, you don’t need to panic. It will come off; you just have to follow these 10 steps to super clean your bike:
- Remove the seat and air filter;
- Cover the intake with an air-box wash cover;
- Use your hands to break down any big pieces of dirt;
- Spray bike cleaner on the bike and let it soak for 10 minutes;
- Using a pressure washer or garden hose, start rinsing off the dirt;
- Spray bike cleaner again and let it soak for 10 minutes;
- Use a scrub to get rid of any stubborn pieces of mud. Use the pressure washer or garde hose to rinse;
- Spray degreaser on the bike’s chain
- Dry the frame with a microfiber cloth;
- Install the seat and air filter, remove the air-box wash cover from the intake and you are good to go.
Important Sidenote: Make sure to dry the chain as much as possible. You can do this with a dry cloth. After the bike’s chain is dry, you need to apply lubricant right away to prevent it from rusting.
In conclusion, there are a lot of great options out there when it comes to bike cleaners. My favorite is and will remain the Muc Off Nano Tech Bike Cleaner. Other really great options that get the job done are the Chemical Guys Mr. Pink Foaming Car Wash Soap, the Muc-Off Snow Foam, the Finish Line Super Bike Wash, or the S100 Total Cycle Cleaner. Or, if you want the most affordable and easy-to-find solution, go with the good old dish soap. Dish soap is a great degreaser that works wonders when it comes to getting rid of mud and dirt.
