There’s a lot of questions that beginners ask when they want to get serious about riding ATVs. Whether you are looking to buy a sport ATV or one that is designed for rugged terrains, you will most likely have to choose between a bunch of popular brands. Two of the most reputable ones are Can-Am and Yamaha. These brands have created amazing four-wheelers and the ATV community is always struggling to figure out which one is more reliable.
Can-Am and Yamaha are two of the world’s biggest ATV brands. Every product that they make is top-tier quality and they come with a warranty that lasts for years. This is why it’s always best to go with the brand that you like the most and don’t overthink it too much. However, there are some differences. In terms of reliability, Yamaha is better than Can-Am. There are some popular Yamaha models such as the Yamaha Grizzly that are designed to last for years. They don’t break down easily and if they do, you can find cheap parts at all shops. On the other hand, Can-Am ATVs are more expensive to repair.

Can-Am vs Yamaha: What brand makes the most reliable ATVs?
Right from the start, I want to mention that both Can-Am and Yamaha are reputable brands. They each produce top-of-the-line ATVs that can ride on all sorts of terrains. I am always advising people to choose the ATV model that they like the most or the one that fits in their budget better. With that out of the way, forums are saying that Yamaha is the superior brand in terms of reliability.
After doing a more in-depth search, I found out that even people who own Can-Ams and are on the company’s forums are agreeing that Yamaha does make excellent four-wheelers. The reason behind this is that Yamaha has designed a bunch of high-end ATVs that deliver exceptional performances. Take for example the famous Yamaha Blaster. This is an 195cc single-cylinder ATV for all ages and it features an entry-level price of $2,000 to $3,000.
Another important thing to keep in mind when comparing Can-Am vs Yamaha is that there’s a long list of problems that Can-Am ATVs are infamous for. They have their own share of problems. The thing that sets Yamaha apart is the fact that their ATVs are more common and the parts are cheaper and easier to find. This means that you won’t have to spend a small fortune in case you need to make any repairs.
What ATV Should I Choose?
The first thing that you need to do is think about what kind of terrain you will be riding on. Do you live near forests? If that is the case, then you need a smaller four-wheeler that can pass between trees and cross rivers without a problem. Do you live close to the mountains? In this scenario, you might want a more rugged quad that is fueled by a big engine. Going uphill is not easy at all, especially if you do it on rocky trails.
Since I don’t know what type of ATV you are looking for specifically, I will recommend one that is great for all terrains. The Yamaha Raptor 700R is one of my favorite four-wheelers and this is because it can easily maintain a top speed of 75mph in all types of terrain. So, no matter if you are riding uphill or through mud, you can be sure that the Yamaha Raptor 700R will not let you down. I do need to mention that Yamaha Raptor 700R is not the ideal ATV for beginners. The reason behind this is that it’s fueled by a 686cc engine that delivers 45 horsepower.
For beginners, I would choose a smaller ATV that runs on a 125cc engine. As fun as a big engine might seem, it’s always best to be safe than sorry. Riding a powerful four-wheeler is not an easy task, especially on challenging trails that require lots of physical strength and endurance. This is why I highly recommend a smaller ATV like the Yamaha V-Max. You should consider thinking about getting a semi-automatic ATV. Shifting will never be a problem again!
