Yamaha Blaster: Cheap, Fast, and Reliable (2023 Update)

If you are a fan of ATV riding and have been around many outdoor trails, there’s a high chance that you are familiar with Yamaha Blaster. This is an iconic ATV in the US that appeared on the market back in 1988. What made the Yamaha Blaster such a hit in the US is the cheap selling price and two-stroke engine that can be easily modified by enthusiasts. That’s not all. there are tons of add-ons and extra parts available for cheap on the aftermarket.

Yamaha Blaster is a popular ATV that reaches a top speed of 55 MPH (stock engine). The Blaster uses a 2-stroke engine that delivers 43 horsepower and impressionable torque. The starting price for the quad is $2,000 and some high-end models that are modified for speed go as high as $3,000. Unfortunately, Yamaha no longer makes the Blasters ATVs and people can only buy them from resellers. There are no new models!

Want to learn everything there is to know about this iconic ATV model before getting one? You have arrived at the right place. I have ridden a couple of Yamaha Blasters in my day and I’ll use my experience to help you determine if buying a Yamaha Blaster is worth it (while also answering other questions).

How Fast is a Yamaha Blaster?

Yamaha Blaster reaches a top speed of 55 MPH. This makes the Blaster one of the fastest 200cc quads on the market. What’s great about the four-wheeler is the fact that it weighs only at 306 lbs. Therefore, you are guaranteed to feel the power of the 200cc engine right from the first moment you pull on the throttle.

Talking about the engine, I should highlight that it’s air-cooled and thanks to its 2-stroke design, it’s famous for being super easy to modify. This is why people who know their way around engines can modify the ATV to reach speeds even higher than 55 MPH. The user “LSRBlaster3” from the Bluetraxx forum claims he got the Blaster to reach 65 MPH on paved roads. Now, this is super impressive.

Yamaha makes some of the best ATVs in the world and there is no doubt about that. In fact, the Yamaha Raptor 700R is categorized as the best ATV for off road. You can read more about it by checking out this article I wrote where I highlight the top 2 best ATVs for off road adventures.

How Many CCs are Yamaha Blasters?

Yamaha Blasters are 200cc. They use a single-cylinder engine that is the perfect engine size for people who are just getting started with four-wheelers and want something that is easily controllable. However, 195cc is not a small engine by any means. It’s actually more than enough to give riders thrilling adventures. It’s just a matter of how fast you want to ride.

How Much is a Yamaha Blaster Worth?

The starting price for a Yamaha blaster is $2,000. Some special models with modified engines can go up to $3,000! The price is a bit expensive for a 200cc ATV, but the Blaster makes up for that by having a cheap maintenance cost. This ATV model is fairly popular and therefore, you can find replacement parts quite easily. In addition, a used Yamaha Blaster is worth around $1,500. Although, you need to make sure to bring the four-wheeler to a mechanic’s shop before buying it so that you can check for any possible damages that are hidden.

Where are Yamaha Blasters Made?

A Yellow Yamaha Blaster

Yamaha started manufacturing the four-wheelers back in 1988 in Japan. The low price and easily moddable specs made them a hit, but unfortunately, they are no longer being manufactured. Yamaha stopped making the popular Blasters 200 and Blaster 400 in 2007. Despite the popularity of the quads, Yamaha had no other choice than to stop making them. The reason behind this is that the US government emissions requirement forced the company to do this.

On the bright side of things, Yamaha started creating even more amazing models like the Yamaha Grizzly EPS XT-R which uses CVT transmission, and it’s one of the best ATVs in the world.

Yamaha Blaster Size and Weight

Yamaha did a fantastic job designing the Blaster 200 and 400. The quads feature a sporty look and what’s great about them is the fact that they can be used by both kids and adults. The Yamaha Blaster 200 features the following dimensions: L: 68.3” (173.5 cm), W: 40.7” (103.4 cm), and H: 40.9” (103.9 cm). The seat height is 29.13” (103.9 cm), and the weight of the ATV is 306 lb.

Should You Get a Used Yamaha Blaster?

In my opinion, Yamaha Blasters are great for beginners. The ATVs are affordable and the 195cc single-cylinder engine is easy to control for amateurs. You will have no difficulty learning how to steer the quad in tight corners or how to use the throttle on steep hills. However, the best thing about Blasters is the fact that they are easy to repair and modify. That’s not all. You can also find many aftermarket parts that are available on the cheap. In conclusion, buying a used Yamaha Blaster is definitely worth it if you are looking for a cheap ATV to have fun with.
